Data LIFT in Belize is early on, and the positive impact of this new approach for LGBTQ+ people will be monitored in real-time. We are working for at least five specific results to unlock LGBTQ+ economic power, with a lasting impact for generations to come
Intended Results
1.
Historically excluded from national data efforts, LGBTQ+ people in Belize have remained largely invisible in public conversations. By analyzing and sharing meaningful data, Data LIFT helps clarify the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ communities — opening the door for deeper public understanding, increased empathy, and shifting cultural narratives. With visibility comes the power to change hearts, minds, and exclusionary norms
Awareness & Acceptance

2.
Economic data provides a powerful complement to human rights arguments. By highlighting how exclusion leads to poverty cycles, job discrimination, and economic losses, our findings build the case for non-discrimination laws and inclusive economic policies. Data LIFT strengthens the foundation for legislation like the Equal Opportunities Bill, and helps align public and private sectors toward shared goals of equity and economic growth
Better Domestic Laws & Policies
3.
Global institutions like the World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank have powerful tools to support inclusion — especially when data exists to inform their investments. With strong diagnostic evidence, Data LIFT ensures LGBTQ+ realities are considered when development banks design programs, offer grants or loans, and deliver technical assistance. This empowers international financing to truly reach and uplift LGBTQ+ communities
Access to International Financing

4.
Representation on National & Global Platforms
When LGBTQ+ advocacy is backed by data, it gains traction in policy conversations — from national ministries to international development forums. Data LIFT is helping secure LGBTQ+ representation at decision-making tables, especially within economic institutions and business associations. Representation is not just visibility — it’s influence
5.
Lasting change requires a systemic knowledge infrastructure. That’s why we are embedding LGBTQ+ inclusion into Belize’s national data systems. Through partnerships with institutions like the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB), we’re supporting a knowledge ecosystem that doesn’t just measure progress — it drives it, informing future policy, funding and programming at every level
